Newt Gingrich’s efforts to cast himself as the white knight, cleaving through the murk of blacks leeching off government, exposed more than the seedy opportunistic side of  politics–It laid bare an electorate fueled by racist mores.

The interesting part about being a racist is the not so subtle manner in which you promote your racist dogma.  Most racists don’t believe they’re being anything other than truthful… denying the invocation of  racist diatribes creates a protective cloak against which repudiation rarely penetrates.  In fact, the views of the accusers are seen as more unpalatable than the accused’s invective.

Racism is itself as insidious and ingrained as lying.  As Coates puts it, “The habit of lying does not end with the racism itself. It is a contagion that extends to the defense of the initial lie.”  To wit:

People who are regularly complicit in wrong, are not in the habit of admitting such things. The unwillingness to admit wrong, the greedy claim upon the powers of disappointment,  the deep sense of injury is not coincidental–it is a necessary fact of wrong-doing. The charge that the NAACP are the actual racist is the descendant of the notion that abolitionists wanted to reduce Southern whites to “slavery,”  that the goal of civil rights was the rape of white women.That Barack Obama would have a “deep-seated hatred of white people” is not a new concept.

Those that commit acts of wrong doing never admit to the act because they are in fact not wrong–at least in their mind.  Their business is all about proudly basking in their racism– totally unfettered.  It is an inherent trait that fuels their ambition.

Newt Gingrich’s goal is gaining the republican nomination for presidency of the United States, and those people in South Carolina weren’t just acknowledging a gotcha moment from moderator Juan Williams– or a deft retort from Gingrich–they were proudly reaffirming their own racist reality.   The promulgation of racist narratives isn’t incidental, it’s coolly calculated strategy–and to many, a way of life.  That much is now apparent.

I try not to riff off of another blogger’s work, even though there are a significant number of writers I admire greatly.  But when I read this piece on Ta-Nehisi Coates’ blog regarding an op-ed written by a young black man in New York City, I had to link to it.  Here’s the dagger for me:

Last May, I was outside my apartment building on my way to the store when two police officers jumped out of an unmarked car and told me to stop and put my hands up against the wall. I complied. Without my permission, they removed my cellphone from my hand, and one of the officers reached into my pockets, and removed my wallet and keys. He looked through my wallet, then handcuffed me. The officers wanted to know if I had just come out of a particular building. No, I told them, I lived next door.

One of the officers asked which of the keys they had removed from my pocket opened my apartment door. Then he entered my building and tried to get into my apartment with my key. My 18-year-old sister was inside with two of our younger siblings; later she told me she had no idea why the police were trying to get into our apartment and was terrified. She tried to call me, but because they had confiscated my phone, I couldn’t answer.

Meanwhile, a white officer put me in the back of the police car. I was still handcuffed. The officer asked if I had any marijuana, and I said no. He removed and searched my shoes and patted down my socks. I asked why they were searching me, and he told me someone in my building complained that a person they believed fit my description had been ringing their bell. After the other officer returned from inside my apartment building, they opened the door to the police car, told me to get out, removed the handcuffs and simply drove off. I was deeply shaken…

It feels like an important thing to be part of a community of hundreds of thousands of people who are wrongfully stopped on their way to work, school, church or shopping, and are patted down or worse by the police though they carry no weapon; and searched for no reason other than the color of their skin. I hope police practices will change and that when I have children I won’t need to pass along my mother’s advice.

No matter how many times someone tells me profiling–and this case wasn’t even profiling, rather an unconscionable act of violation– is a necessary evil.  To me it just reinforces the double standard many black men face and white men don’t.  When there is an abrogation of your civil and human rights, that is not a necessary evil.  It’s simply evil.

So it goes I suppose, without recriminations or recourse for these officers involved.  The ever spinning wheels of tainted justice continue to claim victims who have no way to adequately respond to this molestation.  This is what passes for crime-fighting in many cities in America I suppose.

This didn’t take long:

Of all the reasons for Herman Cain’s spectacular flame out, being a brother wasn’t one of them.  In fact I submit it helped him far more than it hurt him in his spectacular rise to the top of the polls.

What’s more fascinating is Cain’s persistent calls for black folks to end their reliance on using race as a crutch in American society.  He’s not only adopted the very idea he denounced, he’s proudly flaunting its usage.  I’d say Herman Cain’s character flaws–which include using race when it only suits him– as well as his general ignorance about the world around him did him in.  I suppose you reap what you sow when you play plantation politics.

The dilemma surrounding discussions of race has less to do with conflict between black and white.  It has more to do with the intrinsic value systems inherited by many over generations.  Witness a white southern woman discussing race relations and integration in her small Texas county:

Jan Gannaway, a Haskell native who is white, said integration took time.

“We weren’t integrated nearly as rapidly as the North,” she said. “But we’ve always had a different relationship with our blacks than the North has, too. It’s often been said, and I think it’s true, we love them individually and kind of distrust them as a group, whereas in the North, they don’t want to get too close to them individually but they embrace them as a group.”

To argue the merits of civil rights legislation on the basis of government overreach, is consistent with the subjugation of humanity for a group of Americans.  That is unconscionable.  It’s un-American.  But it seems to be part of the foundation of collective American thought by some in the south.  Just ask Jan Gannaway.

I wouldn’t say these jokes about Barack Obama are racially charged.  They may push the envelope on good taste though. More broadly, they lack certain sensibilities.  It’s almost as if Brown expected his audience to soak up the venom gladly. Not with the cameras running.

I’ve heard worse, but don’t quit your day job Mr. Brown.

God Bless Fox News for reporting on what is really important. The president finally decided to put the Guinness down, leave Europe, and pay his respects to those lost in the devastating tornadoes in Joplin.

Fox breaks the REAL news.  That news wasn’t the terrific, humbling, unifying speech given by the president.  It wasn’t the moving ceremony conducted by the city of Joplin.  It was the fact that the president may, or may not have been chewing gum during the service.  Watch the very socialist, Kenyan-like behavior below:

I’m sure it was watermelon flavored too.  Trifling.

Jerome Corsi’s new book, ‘Where is the birth certificate?’ | is #6 on the New York Times bestseller list. 17% of Americans still believe Obama was “definitely or probably” not born in the U.S., even after he produced his long-form birth certificate.

No matter the evidence to the contrary, Americans will still chase dragons and unicorns.  That 17% have lost all privileges to participate in grown folk discussions.  Corsi is a peddler of invective, and bases his suppositions on theory and straw-man logic.  The simplicity of this issue cuts quickly to the core of white fright.  It won’t die.  Are partisans this jelly-headed, they conflate lunacy with actual journalism?

Corsi is the herder, and he continues to keep his herd in line by churning out this crap.  The most unfortunate thing is people keep buying it.  They don’t know any better.  Sheep never do.

That’s the price of affirmative action. It taints black achievements, in the mind of many, with the question of “would this man have succeeded without race preferences” even in cases where the answer is undoubtedly “yes!”

The only price of affirmative action is the misguided attempts at disproving its usefulness in American society.   Whatever your views on it, to say it taints black achievement is not only wrong– it’s misguided, and fails to dig deeply into the root of what affirmative action is. What irritates me most is the notion that somehow only black folks benefit from this system–thus black people must be inferior and unable to conquer the rigors and requirements others must to succeed.

Opponents of affirmative action point to a color blind society– a level playing field upon which all of us should be competing.  When has this ever been the case in this country?  For centuries, certain elements of society have always had inherent advantages based upon race, money, gender, family, etc. White America has thrived from a system built on white privilege.  The irony here is the same people who’ve benefited from these privileges lead the charge against others receiving them. 

This country will never have an equal playing field, and that may be to the good.   But it is pure fallacy to assume that the person with the most melanin is the only one thriving because of affirmative action.  Affirmative action is built into American DNA.  George W. Bush knows it.  Donald Trump knows it.  They’ve both become successful in part because of it.  At least we’d be dealing with absolute truth if we accept that premise.  Can either of them claim to have ascended to the halls of success without the advantages their money and family brought them?  Can anyone in society make such a claim.

Before you accept that black success is tainted as fact, I would recommend a closer examination of American history to see just how many of us have received a leg up.

Newt Gingrich has always painted broadly outside the racial lines, and his deft ability to cocoon himself inside of a pseudo-intellectual balloon curries favor for him in conservative circles on issues of race.  This quote deserves and demands more examination:

Republican Newt Gingrich told a Georgia audience on Friday evening that the 2012 presidential election is the most consequential since the 1860 race that elected Abraham Lincoln to the White House and was soon followed by the Civil War.

Addressing the Georgia Republican Party’s convention, Gingrich said the nation is at a crossroads and that the re-election of Democratic President Barack Obama would lead to four more years of “radical left-wing values” that would drive the nation to ruin.

Gingrich also blasted Obama as “the most successful food stamp president in modern American history.”

Everything else seems to be on the table–Why are rappers coming to the White House?  Where is your birth certificate?  Why are you playing basketball?  Everything of course but jobs and things that affect real people.  This is quite possibly the most bizarre attack yet though, and it says quite a bit about their mindset. This isn’t political dissent. This is strictly comedic fodder, and it makes them look even more parochial and silly than ever.
