Words… bite. They cut, and we bleed. Profusely.
“When I see the American flag, I go, ‘Oh my God, you’re insulting me.’” -Janeane Garofalo
To a disabled Vietnam vet: “People like you caused us to lose that war.” – Ann Coulter
“These guys hate that a black guy is in the White House. But they immigrant bash, they pretend taxes and tea bags, and like I said, most of them probably couldn’t tell you thing one about taxation without representation, the Boston tea party, the British imperialism, whatever the history lesson has to be. But these people, all white for the most part, unless there’s some people with Stockholm syndrome there.”- Janeane Garofalo
“If Islam is not responsible for terrorism, why is Vinnie responsible for slavery? I’m just trying to get the rules straight on collective guilt. It’s perplexing to hear liberals carrying on so about how peaceful most Muslims are. That’s surely true, just as the vast majority of whites oppose slavery. But the very same people who are anxious to quell the rare anti-Arab hate crimes in response to 19 Arabs attacking America are the ones who are usually found ginning up hate crimes against whites for slavery.” — from Ann Coulter’s “Affirmative action for Osama,” October 11, 2001- Ann Coulter
Wow! What a mouthful that is right? Two women from opposite ends of the ideological tree, spew and rant nonsense. Does
anyone listen? Unfortunately plenty of people do. My focus isn’t to muzzle free speech or expression here. It is to illustrate and highlight ignorant speech. We live in a dangerous climate, where the words we use can destroy our common sensibilities. These two don’t speak to enlighten, or embolden. They speak to shock and awe. They speak to vilify and belittle, in order to receive vindication from their audiences, and plaudits from the misinformed.
I wish they spoke with real intent on improving the human condition. Instead, they speak to lay waste to our unity.
“Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs.”-Pearl Stratchan Hurd
