Glenn Beck Is Going Blind

How much more attention can Glenn Beck gleam from his adoring public?  Apparently enough to concoct (possibly) his most fantastic yarn yet.  Beck, while speaking to a crowd during his American Revival Tour, told the assembled group that he suffered from macular dystrophy.  Macular dystrophy causes deterioration of the eyesight over time:

“A couple of weeks ago, I went to the doctor because of my eyes, I can’t focus my eyes. …He did all kinds of tests and he said, ‘You have macular dystrophy. …You could go blind in the next year. Or, you might not.’ I said, Did you just charge me a $1,000 for knowing what I knew my whole life?”

As usual, Beck used his latest Raison d’etre as a not so veiled shot at President Obama, and the new health care law:

“I went to the best doctor I could find, while I could still go to the best doctor I can find.”

If one were to ignore every other puerile attempt Beck’s ever made to garner sympathy and attract press, then you could possibly entertain the notion that Beck may indeed be going blind.  But why would you?  Beck is a charlatan, who quite possibly could be setting himself up for one of the greatest downfalls in American broadcast journalism history.  I’d be willing to take bets on Beck’s next calamity.  Struck by a bolt of lightening?  Attacked by dolphins?  Losing his tongue?  That last one would at least give him more of an opportunity to use that damn chalkboard.

Pardon me if my position reveals a certain lack of concern or sympathy.  Beck deserves none of it.  Perhaps he should have shown a little himself, and restrained himself from attacking a child.  Beck deserves derision.  If his macular dystrophy story is to be believed– it probably is not– then we know that karma is alive and well.
