Will Obama Create More Jobs In One Year Than Bush Created In Eight?

May 15th, 2010 · 16 Comments · america, News, Politics

Think about this one folks. Ron Brownstein:

PUNDIT PREP — Ron Brownstein, in the new National Journal: “If the economy produces jobs over the next eight months at the same pace as it did over the past four months, the nation will have created more jobs in 2010 alone than it did over the entire eight years of George W. Bush’s presidency. … From February 2001, Bush’s first full month in office, through January 2009, his last, total U.S. nonfarm employment grew from 132.5 million to 133.5 million … That’s an increase, obviously, of just 1 million. From January through April of this year, the economy created 573,000 jobs. Over a full year, that projects to 1.72 million jobs. … Now the principal footnote: To compare job growth in 2010 with Bush’s record ignores the nearly 4 million jobs lost in Obama’s first year, during the freefall that began in Bush’s final months. That’s like ignoring a meteor strike. … Still, if the economy this year produces more than 1 million jobs — or, conceivably, more than 2 million — that will give Democrats more ammunition to argue that their agenda has started to turn the tide.”

I suppose if you’re a republican, it is not in your best interests to create jobs now.  That would mean the economy has turned, and the Obama administration’s policies are working.  That would also mean your thoughts of reclaiming congress are virtually nil.  Is it any wonder that obstructionism has become the clarion call for the GOP?

He is replacing private sector jobs which create wealth and a vibrant economy with govt jobs (some of which are temporary (Census)) which consume wealth and stifle the economy. Our govt is already bloated and unsustainable. He is merely accelerating our demise.

  • Boba FettNo Gravatar

That article is using misleading math. In 2005/2006 alone around 4 million jobs were created. The article is using Bush jobs created minus Bush jobs lost to compare to only the Obama jobs created in a cherry-picked 4 month period, and then to mislead even further in the comparison, makes the assumption that this 4-month rate of job creation will continue for the next 8 months

  • Matthew WrightNo Gravatar

The point is if these projections hold. Democratic administrations have by and large, been better at creating jobs than republicans. George W. Bush actually had an annual percentage increase in job creation of .001. Check out the link below for more evidence. Not sure where you get the 4 million jobs in a year from. Based upon that yearly increase alone, that figure was not possible to attain.

I disagree with your assessment. In fact, I challenge it. You are repeating a fallacious story about temporary jobs boosting job numbers.

  • bo skettiNo Gravatar

You’re also completely ignoring the millions of Americans that have dropped off the unemployment rolls as their benefits have expired. The only job growth Obama knows if government jobs. Period.

  • Matthew WrightNo Gravatar

No I’m not. So, you’re saying there have been no private sector jobs created right? I just want to me sure this is what you are saying.

  • bo skettiNo Gravatar

No, I’m saying that he has no idea how to create private sector jobs as evidenced by his mission to increase dependency on govt through massive new entitlements, increase the federal employee payroll ranks and eventually getting around to snuffing out what little is left of our economy with crushing new taxes like the VAT.

As a country we’re insolvent and a step or two away from what is happening in Greece/Europe (economically speaking, as they are unable to keep the printing pressing rolling 24×7, “monetizing” debt, etc.). So instead of recognizing what is evident to everyone who has ever studied economics or history…or balanced a checkbook, he’s heaping on new unsustainable govt programs at a rate that was unthinkable by his free spending predecessor vs. rapidly dismantling them.

Like I said, we’re toast. He’s just speeding up the inevitable.

  • Matthew WrightNo Gravatar

I’ll agree with you to a point. The level of spending it tremendously high. But you weren’t expecting to see Obama steady the economy using conservative principles were you? People rejected those methods in 2008. Now the question becomes; will the recovery (and we are in one no matter how anemic it may seem) be enough to persuade the public to support Obama’s policies? We’ll know soon enough. But you can also argue that conservatives have no idea how to cut deficits or balance budgets. They only seem to care about both when there’s a democrat in the white house.

  • Bo skettiNo Gravatar

    Three things

“People” consisted of a little over half the voters.

GB didn’t exhibit conservative principles by any stretch of the imagination.

I’m afraid you’re confusing trillions in global “stimulus” with a real recovery.

  • Matthew WrightNo Gravatar

That does not matter. He won the election, and his competitor could not muster over half the voters. Why must some people insist that that election didn’t matter, or somehow Obama winning was not tantamount to a true victory? I’m sure we wouldn’t be on the verge of collapse if McCain were president right? You’re right. GW did not exhibit conservative principles (from what most conservatives keep saying) but Ronald Reagan didn’t balance any budgets during his terms. He didn’t cut the deficit. He actually raised the deficit. So did GHWB.
We can agree to disagree with us being in a recovery. I happen to think that three quarters of consecutive growth in GDP, and steady job creation, however slight, constitutes one.

By the way Bo, thanks for coming to the blog. Thanks for the debate.

Assuming that you’re a republican, it is not in your best interests to create jobs now. That would mean the economy has turned, and the Obama administration’s policies are working.

Exactly. Thanks for the observation Todd.

This is just a scale since 1921 explaining which political party is better at creating when in office. If I counted correctly it seems republicans have been in the positive more than the democrats. All you obama lovers he is in the negative with creating jobs. Way to go maybe next time people will vote for a much better reason then his skin color. He mentioned there would be change if you voted for him. He just left out what type of change would take place. LMFAO
