Here we go again. Conservatives, America’s “real patriots,” have managed to make another mess with their Tea Party protest. Thank you Fox News. After I wrote about the 9/12 protest in September– how certain conservative bloggers wet themselves in reporting inflated attendance numbers (Michelle Malkin)– then used a fake picture to depict the scene, I [...]

Here we go again. Conservatives, America’s “real patriots,” have managed to make another mess with their Tea Party protest. Thank you Fox News. After I wrote about the 9/12 protest in September– how certain conservative bloggers wet themselves in reporting inflated attendance numbers (Michelle Malkin)– then used a fake picture to depict the scene, I just knew they had learned a lesson. I guess they haven’t. Apparently Fox News, that bastion of ethical and fair journalism, has gotten its nose dirty, thanks to some tricky doctoring of video by Sean Hannity and his producers. The most recent Tea Party protests, organized by Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) was the recipient this time of the “special treatment.” Take a look at the two photos below. The photo on the left was of the most recent protest led by Bachmann. On the right is the 9/12 protest organized by rabid loon Glen Beck. Notice anything odd?

Wow. I suppose this is what you do to stay on top. The “Super Bowl of Freedom” huh? This is one of the most blatant misrepresentations I’ve seen in quite some time. One has to wonder how often they distort the facts, and bend the rules in order to remain the best tabloid entertainment organization. I say that because their credibility as a “real” news organization is seriously compromised here. Real news organizations report the actual story, they’re not part of the story. Sean Hannity, you deserve a big thanks for lifting the veil on your company’s shameful practices. Take a bow. Now grow a pair, and admit that Fox News is all about spreading propaganda. Someone at that network needs to.

UPDATE: Hannity apologizes. Hell has frozen over.

Anyone familiar with George Hutchins? I wasn’t either. Not until I came across his new website. Now, I’m wishing I could pluck out my eyes. Mr. Hutchins is running for congress in 2010, in the fourth district in North Carolina. His opponent, Congressman David Price (D), represents North Carolina’s “triangle”– a prosperous, well-educated section of the Tar Heel state which encompasses Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.

George Hutchins is one of those brilliant Birthers. He is a neo-conservative who believes the Civil Rights Act is un-American. He believes Sanford and Son became successful without the aid of Affirmative Action, so why can’t others? (Yes, I realize “Sanford and Son” is fictional, but I don’t think he does). He has not only created the most visually hideous website– dedicated to distortion, venom, and outright hatred– he’s managed to craft something that is a total piece of shit. I mean seriously, you’ve got to look at this thing. It looks like a child scribbling with crayola crayons in a Glidden factory, after there was an explosion of all their red paint. Just awful. Then there’s the poor editing, and mangled metaphors. I can’t really do it justice. Please see for yourself.

The tea party movement has become potent. It should not be dismissed cavalierly. Some of these protesters are honest, decent, hard-working people, concerned about how their money is being spent by those in Washington. I don’t find fault with those willing to express their right to protest. But there’s a fringe element. These are the people who have no qualms about linking President Obama to the massacre of the Jews during the Holocaust, while orchestrating his ascent up the American political hierarchy from his hut in Kenya. These people, if left unchecked, would almost assuredly poison every last democrat, then blame their deaths on the President’s “socialist” policies. This is the element that has spawned George Hutchins.

America has a real problem with kooks like this. Hutchins, while I’m sure is an… interesting fellow, is not someone I would feel comfortable casting my vote for if I were a conservative in North Carolina. Okay, that’s putting it mildly. The guy is a frosted flake. Anyone with the temerity to attach his name to that abortion of a website has got to be ingesting some really smooth hooch. Most sense-loving Americans don’t indulge in the vitriolic babble that has enraptured most far-right conservatives– at least not the ones I know. They’re more concerned with the economy and job creation. If Mr. Hutchins created a site for his campaign focusing on these issues, and his plan to combat President Obama on them, then I would welcome that. He did not. He decided to pander and wallow in the gutter like a rat. A rat that can’t think one coherent thought. Check out this beauty here. I apologize in advance for the technicolor:

“IF, I were to be compared to AL BUNDY of “Married With Children,” or the BEATLES‘ Drummer, RINGO STAR, or the BEATLES‘ guitarist, GEORGE HARRISON, by the Left-Wing Liberal Democrats, who some say, I resemble, No One would say NOTHING either.”

Yes… he did mention Al Bundy, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison in one sentence.

Look, I don’t expect this clown Hutchins to sniff the night air of our nation’s capitol, but this political climate is breeding thousands of these people everyday. People who believe that America’s promise should only be gifted to some of us, and those who don’t receive it are not welcome. I have no interest in discussing anything cogent regarding politics, with people who’d rather talk about Nazism, border passes for our president, and the illegality of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Spare me the freedom of speech talk. This is out- and- out hatred and ignorance, disguised as “American patriotism.”

If this is what passes for modern conservatism now, then keep sending me my liberal access card. Hutchins, and his fellow teabag wackjobs, can continue to trample the Mall’s hallowed grass. I just hope they make sure to scoop all the shit they’re dumping.

“If you stay,” the silent video message continues, “ ‘We, The People’ will systematically dismantle you, destroy you and reclaim what is rightfully ours. …

“We are angry and we are ready to take back the rights of the people. We will fight and We will win. …

“Dead line [sic] for your national response: October 15, 2009

“Thank you to all patriots who support our cause. … Be prepared for when the fateful day of the declaration of war is nationally announced.”

Sounds like boastful bluster to me. In this political climate however, you can never be too sure. In a country where people actually bring guns to events featuring the President of the Untied States, anything is possible. I guess the nuts are falling from the trees.

Here’s another question. Who the hell posted this video? Inquiring minds want to know.

Let’s start the cavalcade of anger with Mark Levin, a conservative syndicated radio host:

Levin finishes with this:

I think there’s enormous confusion and positioning and pandering. It may be entertaining, but from my perspective, it’s not. It’s pathetic.

Peter Wehner, a former advisor to President Bush says that Beck is “harmful to the conservative movement” because he’s “erratic,” “bizarre,” and is too interested in “conspiracy theories.”

Conservative MSNBC host Joe Scarborough says “You cannot preach hatred. You cannot say the president is racist. You cannot say things that have very deadly consequences. I was in Congress in 1995. I know where this can end.”

Finally, let’s end with that fabulous race-baiter, and all around good guy Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh calls Beck’s role in promoting the 9-12 protest “shameful and disingenuous.”

It is on folks! The irony here is Beck not only enjoys this negative attention, he probably encourages it. Then he can claim that he speaks for the disenfranchised, not the establishment.

From Media Matters: Yesterday on his radio program, while discussing the crowds at this weekend’s 9/12 protests, Glenn Beck claimed that the LondonTelegraph “quote[d] a source from the Park Service, the National Park Service, saying that it is the largest march on Washington ever.” This led to a good deal of confusion here, as the Telegraph article contains no [...]

From Media Matters:

Yesterday on his radio program, while discussing the crowds at this weekend’s 9/12 protests, Glenn Beck claimed that the LondonTelegraph “quote[d] a source from the Park Service, the National Park Service, saying that it is the largest march on Washington ever.” This led to a good deal of confusion here, as the Telegraph article contains no such quote. Just another case of Beck making things up? Actually, the story behind this turns out to be much funnier than we could have anticipated.

Several conservative blogs have been quoting National Park Service spokesman “Dan Bana” as saying the 9/12 protest was ”the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever.” This appears to be a repurposing of this quote from David Barna (who, unlike Dan Bana, appears to be a real person):

David Barna, a Park Service spokesman, said the agency did not conduct its own count. Instead, it will use a Washington Post account that said 1.8 million people gathered on the US Capitol grounds, National Mall, and parade route.

“It is a record,” Barna said. “We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever.”

The above quote was taken from Mr. Barna- about the inauguration in January! What? Please read more of the article here and here. When will someone stop this madness?

Impressive turnout no? No. According to PolitiFact.com, conservative bloggers are using a phony photo to describe and inflate the number of people attending the 9-12 Tea Party rally in Washington D.C. Saturday. It’s not new to inflate protest numbers for any demonstration in the nation’s capital. It’s nothing new to deflate numbers for such events [...]

It’s nothing new to deflate numbers for such events either. However, it is new to use phony pictures to describe a scene that did not exist.

The blogs who made the egregious faux pas were Powerline and Say Anything . They have since retracted the photos. Why are some conservatives claiming to own the truth on issues like health care, when they clearly lie and scheme to make their points?

The protests on Saturday were impressive. Why feel the need to make them what they were not through subterfuge? And how dumb do you have to be to think your lie wouldn’t be discovered?

UPDATE: The above photo is from the 1997 Million Man March, which ironically, was castigated for claiming that the organizers inflated the numbers in their rally. From Wonkette:

Would-be teabaggers and and other easily duped dingbats are proudly emailing each other wonderful pictures of a million teabaggers crowding the National Mall, but these pictures are actually from the Million Man March of 1997, an event attended by, ahem, colored people. Not only did the Million Man March actually attract a million people, it was led by wingnuts’ second-most-hated negro person, Louis Farrakhan, a real black Muslim.

Frankly, there is nothing more embarrassing for a colored-hating Real American than not being able to tell from an aerial photo of an immense crowd that those people aren’t even white! This is why photos cannot be trusted, if taken from a distance.

You cannot make this stuff up people. Or in this case, maybe you can.
