Jerome Corsi’s new book, ‘Where is the birth certificate?’ | is #6 on the New York Times bestseller list. 17% of Americans still believe Obama was “definitely or probably” not born in the U.S., even after he produced his long-form birth certificate. No matter the evidence to the contrary, Americans will still chase dragons and [...]

No matter the evidence to the contrary, Americans will still chase dragons and unicorns. That 17% have lost all privileges to participate in grown folk discussions. Corsi is a peddler of invective, and bases his suppositions on theory and straw-man logic. The simplicity of this issue cuts quickly to the core of white fright. It won’t die. Are partisans this jelly-headed, they conflate lunacy with actual journalism?

Corsi is the herder, and he continues to keep his herd in line by churning out this crap. The most unfortunate thing is people keep buying it. They don’t know any better. Sheep never do.

Turner writes:

It was during my viewing of this video [Trump's remarks in New Hampshire] that I began to cry. I thought of my ancestors, both direct and collective, who had fought and died so that I might be treated as an American. I then thought of this fetid, smug, hate-filled, wealthy white man taking credit for the release and yet still not being satisfied. It does not matter how long we’ve been in these United States. We will never be American.

So, tears in my eyes, pain in my heart and rage in my soul, I composed this video message. More than written text, it comes close to expressing my full pain at witnessing a white man who was handed everything call the President of the United States (and me) a nigger.

For me, this is the perfect way to end this maddening Trump-Birther-grades saga–and any political aspirations the attention whore might have. At the risk of revisiting this issue yet again, I have to ask the question in a broader context: when is it ever acceptable for the host of a reality show to question the intellect of the president of the United States–the former editor of the Harvard law review? This thinking lends credence to the barbs of Indonesian welfare thug and Kenyan Socialist. This sad episode drips of racism. Thank you Barantunde for summarizing it so succinctly and powerfully.

No matter your thoughts on this subject, Turner’s assessment can’t be seen as anything other than poignant, searing, and truthful

The White House has released the long form of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate in response to festering questions about whether he was born in the U.S.

The President believed the distraction over his birth certificate wasn’t good for the country. It may have been good politics and good TV, but it was bad for the American people and distracting from the many challenges we face as a country. Therefore, the President directed his counsel to review the legal authority for seeking access to the long form certificate and to request on that basis that the Hawaii State Department of Health make an exception to release a copy of his long form birth certificate. They granted that exception in part because of the tremendous volume of requests they had been getting.

Joseph Farah, maniacal birther, countered by doubling down on crazy:

We look forward to reviewing it like so many other Americans do at this late date. But it is important to remember there are still dozens of other questions concerning this question of eligibility that need to be resolved to assure what has become a very skeptical public concerning Barack Obama’s parentage, his adoption, his citizenship status throughout his life and why he continues to cultivate a culture of secrecy around his life.

And so it goes. I’m not shocked at the response. Nothing short of the president stepping down, and revealing himself as an African socialist would be good enough for this bizarre crew. Even in the face of evidence already presented by the president, Farah continues this lunacy. Why doesn’t he and other birthers simply say what it is that’s driving them? It’s not the origin of his birth, it’s the prevailing belief that he is an agent of Islam. Obama is engaging in the most nefarious duplicity ever seen in American history. He must be outed–not simply because he couldn’t have been born here–but because he is a Muslim. In this instance, facts mean nothing. That’s clearly disturbing.

“Obama has produced his birth certificate. There were announcements that ran in two contemporaneous Hawaiian newspapers at the time. The head of the Hawaiian medical records has announced, ‘I have seen the long form you all want.’ I don’t know why the long form is considered more credible than the short form. They’re both from [...]

“Obama has produced his birth certificate. There were announcements that ran in two contemporaneous Hawaiian newspapers at the time. The head of the Hawaiian medical records has announced, ‘I have seen the long form you all want.’ I don’t know why the long form is considered more credible than the short form. They’re both from the same office. The State Department accepts the short form or as we call it, the birth certificate,” – Ann Coulter to Sean Hannity.

Ann Coulter, voice of reason. I would hardly consider Coulter a fan of the president. That’s what makes birtherism comical and frightening. It’s the myth that won’t die, even in the face of mountainous evidence debunking it at every level. It’s the story only rednecks, conspiracy theorists, and attention whores, lend credence to–because their one pulsing brain cell lacks the ability to cogently argue any other point related to actually moving the country forward. It’s the theory knowledgeable and rational conservatives debunk as nonsense. They believe it knocks their party off message, effectively labeling them kooks. And they’re right on target.

Bitherism is a virus of inexplicable measure, and it has injected itself into the bloodstreams of the majority of the conservative base. It’s as much narrative driven as it is circus, eliciting foaming mouthed reaction from the most rabid right wingers. With many high-profile conservatives refusing to denounce the lunacy– and some tacitly lending credence to the more vocal nuts–the lions are getting their red meat, and choking on it.

It continues to perplex me that this story– one I initially wrote about two years ago–still has legs. Legs that seem to be propelling the myth higher. But at what cost?

Conservatives must know the damage pushing this meme can do not just to their chances of recapturing the white house, but to their brand as a legitimate alternative to liberal policies. Forward thinking Americans are loathe to support conspiracy theorists and panderers to the lunatic fringe.

The clang of birther noise has now managed to make it’s way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, where President Obama addressed it for the first time along with it’s new spokesman Donald Trump. The president called it a “losing strategy,” and he’s right. It’s a potential long term disaster, for reasons just outlined.

The most amazing things about this bizarre mess, is the paper trail. Yes, there is a paper trail, but it exists not as the smoking gun. It exists to support what every American should already know–the president was born here. Period. Despite this, Trump will continue to perpetuate the myth. He’ll continue to waste his money on private investigators. Blogs will continue to publish bizarre ad hominem attacks on the president and his family. They will continue to create phony Kenyan birth certificates to buttress their theories. And weak-kneed conservatives will continue to bow down to the rabid, ignorant wing of their party. They will continue to prop up the idea that the president of the United States is a Kenyan Muslim, bent on subverting American power and coalescing it into some sort of socialist Muslim cabal.

We entertain this story at our peril. Conspiracy theories–whether it’s the truthers or the birthers–diminish our capacity to lead, to define an agenda, to pace the world as we’ve always done, and to command the respect befitting the United States of America.

Someone better start explaining:

Donald Trump made headlines earlier today when he provided what he said was a copy of his birth certificate—but a quick check reveals it’s actually not an official document. The paper that Trump released says “Jamaica Hospital” on top and lists the date and time of what he says was his birth to “Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Trump.” The piece of paper has a seal at the bottom.

But after several New York City-based readers contacted POLITICO’s Maggie Haberman, her call to city officials revealed that an actual birth certificate, which is issued by the Department of Health, would have the agency’s seal and also a signature of the city registrar – neither of which the Trump document has. Officials said the city Health Department is the “sole issuing authority” of official birth certificates in New York, and that the document would clearly say so, and “city officials said it’s not an official document.”

It appears instead to be a hospital “certificate of birth,” meaning the piece of paper the hospital gave to his family saying he was born. Such a document typically has the signature of the hospital administrator and the attending physician.

Trump’s insistence on birthplace purity– and his zeal to crown himself king of the Birther crowd– as exposed him for exactly what he is; a tyrannical attention whore. His only true purpose is to drive viewers to his asinine reality television show–and to jump on board the monolithic, meaningless ideology crew. He fits in well with them. He should be leery about not having his proper birth certificate however. They might start accusing him of being born elsewhere.

He has since retracted this quote, but the damage has been done:

“One thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, very different than the average American … his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British are a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather.”

What to make of this? I’ve thought for a while that Huckabee wouldn’t be running for anything– which would explain his scatter shot thinking on so many issues. This merely confirms that thinking. He’s not even attempting to filter this ridiculous idea of Obama’s youth– despite the fact that it is clearly erroneous– and disproved quite easily. The fringe far-right conservative radio host speaking with Huckabee does not correct his “slip.” Why would he? It only reinforces the birther theology of Obama’s shadowy upbringing. That alone is cause for Huckabee to be stripped of any credibility he may have had.

The president didn’t grow up with his Kenyan father and grandmother. Why would you make these things up? Shouldn’t you have some knowledge of the man you’re speaking about before you you choose to spread innuendo?

What I would love to know is why doesn’t Huckabee simply dispel the inane ramblings of a nutcase fringer with a radio show? Why play the game if there were no intention to ratchet up the climate of fear and doubt?

What do you make of this man? For someone considered one of the most rational of the potential contenders to the republican nomination, he sure is projecting an irrationality unbecoming of a presidential candidate. He’s turned into one of them. Sad.

Does it make sense for the NAACP to condemn the tea party movement as racist?

There are clearly racists in the Tea Party, but how effective can a resolution condemning “racist elements” of a group be? It would be like condemning the racist elements of Walmart or an intramural kickball league or any organization. On the other hand, if you’re condemning the entire movement as “racist,” you’re going overboard and inviting backlash.

Piggybacking off my last post, Rand Paul perfectly crystalizes the elitist mentality in the worst of times:

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul says the poor in America are “enormously better off than the rest of the world,” citing an old Cold War film that showed even impoverished homes had color televisions.Paul’s recent remarks at his first forum with Democratic opponent Jack Conway stirred some anger in impoverished pockets of Kentucky, where as many as a third of residents live in poverty.

Republican Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana says he supports conservative organizations challenging President Barack Obama’s citizenship in court.

Vitter, who is running for re-election, made the comments at a town hall-style event in Metairie, La., on Sunday when a constituent asked what he would do about what the questioner said was Obama’s “refusal to produce a valid birth.

It may be too easy to say that the president hasn’t provided proof of his place of birth (Which he has on countless occasions. Those in question just don’t think it’s proof enough. Tough shit ). It may be too easy to totally discount the fact that various independent souces have verified and confirmed all documents pertaining to President Obama’s birth certificate and birthplace. Let’s just accept the fact that some Americans are just bat shit crazy, and couldn’t see factual information if it were stapled to their foreheads.

Let’s face some hard truths here. Over 60 percent of Americans can’t name a single Supreme Court justice. 60 percent. Less than half of Americans polled can name all three branches of government. They know that they’re taxed too much, even though they don’t know who exactly is taxing them. I’m sure most of these dumb asses also know who won American Idol, or what man Kim Kardashian is dating this week.

My point is simple: America is becoming a country full of idiots– dumbed down by reality television and insipid, talk radio. Some Americans want to be told what to think. I won’t be putting any more stock in surveys and polls like this, because some people are just too stupid to know any better. Some of them think Barack Obama is a space alien, or a magic negro, or the Antichrist. America is becoming an awfully dangerous place to think.
