America delivers retribution at the tip of a spear, or more specifically, a Navy Seal’s bullet. Turns out this was a bit of foreshadowing by the president:

Sullivan adds this:

The more I hear the more Obama seems very close to this over the last few months: in weekly meetings, deeply involved in five national security meetings recently. This was not a lucky break. This was the end-point of several weeks of coordination. And Obama’s cool throughout. As Donald Trump was birthering out, Obama was aiming right at this country’s deadliest enemy.

How impossibly cool is this guy? As this fucking circus about birth certificates swirled about, all he continued to do was conduct a highly covert operation under the cover of darkness–away from the muck and the mire– while his name, the office of the presidency, and his American authenticity continued to be sullied.

Let us not kid ourselves. This invariably will be made a politically partisan issue. So let’s be clear: The most noted piece of President Obama’s foreign policy platform during the 2008 campaign was to expand the war in Afghanistan– and to kill Osama Bin Laden. This expansion also included perhaps the most controversial and dangerous tenet –taking the war into Pakistan if necessary to make the kill. Not one political leader had the guts to advocate such a maneuver. Not John McCain. Not Sarah Palin. Not George W. Bush– who not only shrunk from truly pursuing Bin Laden and attempted to downplay his actual existence–he did not pursue the course as stringently as he should have in Afghanistan. Instead, he diverted resources for a war in Iraq. Barack Obama knew Bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan, and was not afraid to tread where others feared in order to exact retribution for America. Barack Obama not only led this charge while others were too weak-willed to do so, he told us all he would to so:

If the purpose of this war was to capture and/or kill Bin Laden, President Bush failed. I don’t doubt President Bush’s resolve to the cause. I’m just stating an irrefutable fact. President Obama did not fail. He led boldly, unabashedly, and with strength and courage.

Those questioning the methodology of the Obama Doctrine, have now received a true taste of what real American leadership looks like. In one of the most important moments in American history, President Obama’s cool authoritative countenance helped him execute this mission. Character and commitment are markers of American determination, and clearly they could not have been exhibited better. Thank you Mr. President, and thank you to the greatest military force and intelligence community the world has ever know.

It was a necessity we kill this man. A man responsible for plunging our nation into a chaos we’ve never seen. It was a necessity for the victims and their families, and it was necessity for America–not to celebrate not death– but glorify justice. I am a proud believer in the Obama Doctrine and the American military.

So Robert Gates, an Air Force vet, disagrees with John McCain, and by the factual lights of McCain, Gates is dismissed as as “political appointee who’s never been in the military.” Admiral Mike Mullen,Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs, disagrees with McCain and is transformed into someone who McCain does not “view as a military leader.” And a policy with the support of nearly 80 percent of the American, can only be viewed through the machinations of Georgetown cocktail parties. Even the military itself, in McCain’s mind, is bent to his prejudice. By implication he defines it as provincial outfit almost totally rooted, not in a time or a place, but in the smallness of McCain’s square mind.

McCain’s purported pleasure at making himself relevant by becoming a dissenter–even at the expense of his own stances on policy, and his own common sense– only makes the fact that he was lambasted in the presidential election all the more sweet. Could we really stand to have an intemperate, bitter curmudgeon walking the hallways of the white house?

I find McCain’s mention of Georgetown elite cocktail parties particularly amusing. I always enjoy being lectured to on the high art of elitism by a career politician, who bathes in elite society himself.

This is what John McCain is now. A casualty of his own ineffectiveness.

This is getting pretty pathetic. I was thinking John McCain would give up this false crusade against Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell–considering his disingenuous move to the right during his re-election campaign. He was elected pretty easily, so why keep up the false pretense? Instead, the man continues to change his opinions every time the wind [...]

This is getting pretty pathetic. I was thinking John McCain would give up this false crusade against Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell–considering his disingenuous move to the right during his re-election campaign. He was elected pretty easily, so why keep up the false pretense? Instead, the man continues to change his opinions every time the wind changes course–or when it will get him press coverage.

Here’s McCain, further sullying himself on Meet the Press Sunday:

Why do pundits even bother talking to him about anything anymore? He’s so far removed from logic authenticity that it’s comical. What does he truly believe about anything anymore?

Conservatives taking pleasure in McCain’s flip flopping, only need wait another few months for the other McCain to rear his grayed head again. It’s coming very soon.

He wouldn’t know? He wouldn’t know what? How much of a cynical, reckless failure he was and is? He wouldn’t know how unqualified his running mate was? As I wrote yesterday, I’m pretty sure he didn’t care. This man’s soul has seeped slowly from his fossilized body.

What kind of political leader puts country first by picking some mullet head who knows less about the world around them than eighth-graders? John McCain ladies and gentlemen. Reckless, irresponsible, and dangerous.

The more I think about this Palin pick in 2008, the more disgusted I am. Was he just trying to win an election at the expense of actually governing a nation? Did he honestly believe, over the objections of his right hand man, that Palin was qualified to lead in his stead? Ultimately, the buck stops with the presidential candidate. And it’s McCain’s scalp that should be lifted. If his mantra was “country first,” he sure didn’t apply it to his vision of a post 2008 election America. Instead, he plodded on– rubber stamping her horrendous credentials– and burnishing her Alaskan every woman swag, even if he didn’t truly feel it. That will always be McCain’s shame. I suppose my cynicism is bubbling to the surface, but what if the McCain-Palin team managed to win? How comfortable would you be with a woman reportedly unsure why there were two Koreas?

It’s so easy to belittle decisions made after the fact. Take the 700 plus billion dollar bailout, which at the time, received universal support. It was seen as a necessary implement in propping up huge financial institutions — before they collapsed– and resulted in widespread economic turmoil. Now, every clown hidden amongst tea party crowds, [...]

Now, every clown hidden amongst tea party crowds, protected under their cloak of financial responsibility, decries this as big government run amok. Even the clowns who supported it (John McCain, Sarah Palin). To quote Wonkabout: “Contemplating large expenditures after they’ve been implemented — it’s the American way.”

Political think tanks– that bastion of elitist eggheads in love with the smell of own their gaseous eruptions– are as responsible as any two-bit, two-faced politician for propagating lies and bitter derision. Case in point. Here’s an exchange from Thursday’s panel discussion of climate change at the way conservativeve Heritage Foundation. Senator James Inhofe drops by to ratchet up the wacky factor just a tad:

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) paid a surprise visit to the Heritage Foundation Thursday, dropping in for a panel discussion on his favorite subject: climate change. The Senate’s most virulent global warming denier, Inhofe was greeted with cheers of “our hero!” at the conservative think tank. After launching in to his usual spiel about climate change as the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people, Inhofe went on to criticize President Obama’s decision to address the upcoming climate treaty negotiations in Copenhagen next week. He said he thought the Europeans must believe Obama is some sort of king they way they are gushing over his promise to commit the U.S. to reducing greenhouse gasses. “You would be shocked about how dumb some of these guys over there are,” he said.

Wild cheers and chants?? At a think tank??? The Euro bashing is also a sophisticated touch. And if you consider that these people are supposedly some of the brightest policy scholars on the right– you can understand the contempt your everyday, brain-dead conservative feels toward our European counterparts.

I’m hoping the Heritage Foundation is engaging in actual, productive policy work, instead of whooping it up with the nutrolls of the GOP.

Even though her book doesn’t hit stores until tomorrow, Sarah Palin’s “Going Rogue,” has already created a firestorm. Some folks have seen passages of the book, and they have immediately gone into rebuttal mode. Senator John McCain’s senior staff have vehemently denied any and all stories attributed to them, calling them all fiction. Some folks have seen passages of the book, and they have immediately gone into rebuttal mode. Senator John McCain’s senior staff have vehemently denied any and all stories attributed to them, calling them all fiction. Palin has also accused the AP of lying about the contents of her book– because they ran a piece fact-checking some of the claims in it, and found them to be false. Andrew Sullivan’s Daily Dish responds to the former governor, and throws down the gauntlet. Here’s the challenge:

Yesterday the AP ran a story describing some of the contents of the book, and arguing that many assertions in it are, like so much of what Palin has said, empirically untrue. And they provided some evidence from the real world to prove that.

This morning, Palin wrote the following in response:

“They’re now erroneously reporting on the book’s contents… “

The Dish did not include the AP story in our constantly expanding odd lies series because we don’t have the book yet and would need it to see context, text, etc. in order to assess the AP’s claims. But here we have a clear empirical assertion by Palin that we can subsequently check.

Did the AP erroneously report on the book’s contents, as Palin claims?

Did they “make things up”? Well, we will soon find out.

And by the way, governor Palin, since you clearly read this blog: which of the 32 lies we have already documented can you rebut? We’d be delighted to give you a platform to clear up any factual inaccuracies or misunderstandings that we might have unwittingly published by merely relying on the public record. Presumably, you have more facts at your disposal that could disprove these odd untruths. Any time you want to make your case, we will happily publish your response in full with no edits so you can explain the vast discrepancy between observed reality and your version of it.

Or is this offer libelous as well?

I wonder if she’ll respond?

From the “Dems now have the advantage in future voters” category, John McCain supporters had… uh… trouble saluting the new president after the election of 2008. Young male McCain supporters suffered a loss of testosterone after the results were announced. No wonder those Tea Partiers were so angry.
Well, I knew it was only a matter of time before conservatives woke up, and decided that the type of far-out conspiratorial lunacy fake millionaire populist Glen Beck espouses, was starting to give the party a bad case of hives. Beck, who never misses an opportunity to be a propagandist shill for himself, recently stated in an interview with Katie Couric (Gasp! Mainstream media devil!!) that he thought John McCain would have made a worse president than Barack Obama. Hmmm. Conservatives are coming out of the woodwork in droves to condemn the shill. Here’s what Beck actually says:

Let’s start the cavalcade of anger with Mark Levin, a conservative syndicated radio host:

Levin finishes with this:

I think there’s enormous confusion and positioning and pandering. It may be entertaining, but from my perspective, it’s not. It’s pathetic.

Peter Wehner, a former advisor to President Bush says that Beck is “harmful to the conservative movement” because he’s “erratic,” “bizarre,” and is too interested in “conspiracy theories.”

Conservative MSNBC host Joe Scarborough says “You cannot preach hatred. You cannot say the president is racist. You cannot say things that have very deadly consequences. I was in Congress in 1995. I know where this can end.”

Finally, let’s end with that fabulous race-baiter, and all around good guy Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh calls Beck’s role in promoting the 9-12 protest “shameful and disingenuous.”

It is on folks! The irony here is Beck not only enjoys this negative attention, he probably encourages it. Then he can claim that he speaks for the disenfranchised, not the establishment.
